Owner and Artistic Director
Sal Marchese is New Jersey’s best-kept secret!
A former stylist and instructor for some of the world’s top salons – including Vidal Sasson, Bumble and Bumble, Fredrick Fekkai, Jingles International, Redken, Roger Thompson, and Bob Recine – Sal’s work has appeared in motion pictures, television, and on the pages of fashion magazines, including Vogue, Mirabella, Brides, Metro Pop, and various New Jersey magazines.
Fifteen years ago, Sal settled down and opened Salon Marsal in the beach town of Belmar – five short blocks from his ocean-block home.
Since then, New Jersey’s rock-star royalty and those seeking cutting-edge style and colour have flocked to his Tuscan-inspired space dotted with bold, hand-carved furniture and antiques and sipped the organic iced tea he brews with his home-grown mint.
And while Sal doesn’t cut-and-tell (in order to protect his clients’ privacy), he explains that NJ-based celebs aren’t the only ones that have found the trip to Exit 98 (on the GSP — Belmar) a convenient alternative to New York City. In fact, Sal’s reputation as one of best cutters in New York City, Paris, and Italy and an instructor and member of the USA Trend Development for Eugene Perma (the creator of the Balayage, “sweep-of-colour” technique of hand-painting highlights) have brought him a cadre of devotees happy to stay in the Garden State.
His salon has also become a haven for those seeking re-texturizing, corrective-hair colour, and natural styling. Sal continues to teach, participating in annual workshops in New York City, Philadelphia, and abroad to introduce stylists to new techniques and styling. He doesn’t share all his tricks-of-the-trade, however. He saves some secrets — like his sea-water styling for which he daily gathers quarts of ocean water to use — for those that make the trip to Belmar.
Sal is available to discuss hair-care tips (only wash hair with shampoo every two days), styling techniques (sea-water styling), and other secrets (including the best and worst hair products for your hair and those like him who have sensitivity to certain chemicals).
